S25 (Rod Seal)

Compact rod seal 0155 (S25) is used for sealing piston rods and plungers. It consists of a synthetic rubber portion (NBR) with proofed fabric either on the dynamic sealing face or the base of the seal.

Compact seals operate even under high pressures because of the good sliding characteristics provided by lubricant retention in the surface texture. This ensures that during operating the seal will not run dry as this is the case with all rubber seals. When normal tolerances are used an additional feature of the fabric or the backup ring is that it prevents extrusion into the clearance gap, and therefore reduces wear of the seal.

Compact rod seal 0155 (S25) has a greather contact sealing surface than those of 1541 (S8) and 1545 (S24). To provide initial sealing under low pressure the inner surface has one or two sealing edges. Even with a worn piston rod the greater sealing surface continues to give good sealing. The plastic backup ring bridges even relatively large clearance gaps.

Compact seal 0155 is used as a piston rod seal in heavy duty hydraulic cylinders. Under arduous conditions, such as misaligned piston rods, shock loading, etc. This seal is bettered by multi-lip seals.
